A Journey By Boat Essay Text

During the last summer vacation, i went to my maternal uncle's house at chandannagar to stay there for three days. In the afternoon, i used to go with my two cousins, who were of about my age, to the nearest ghat on the ganga, and take a boat on hire to row for sometime in the river. Myself and runu, one of my brothers, held a scull, and sunu, the other, sat at the helm. But on our way back, as it was still the ebb tide, we could hardly make any progress in spite of rowing with all our might. My uncle and aunt were anxious about our unusual delay, because we did not disclose to them about our plan of boating. However, it was a strange experience for me to row a boat like a boatman, and then fall sick due to pain on both the arms for rowing against the current. Journey is always a pleasurable experience for all and i am also not an exception.

I never miss the chance to go on a journey, especially if it means going on a boat ride. Since bangladesh is a riverine country, a boat ride gives one the clearest picture of the scenic beauty of bangladesh. A few days ago, i made a journey by boat from mongla to paikgacha during my autumn vacation.

There were green fields, paddy fields and jute fields, rows of trees which were full of flowers. Fishermen were catching fish and the women were seen fetching water in colorful pitchers. The boatman tried to reach the destination before the sunset as it was late afternoon. The setting sun reflected on the gleaming water and created an ethereal feeling among us.

I had always been curious about a boating excursion and yearned to have one. The opportune time came last sunday when early in the morning, my friend, satish, came to me with a proposal. Satish, an extrovert as he is, had roped in two more of our common friends, dinesh and naresh. To my surprise and delight, satish had already settled the terms with a boatman and he was there on the bank of the river waiting for us. The ripples in water were a wonderful sight as i discovered and particularly so, as the moon soon appeared in the sky and spread its silvery beams on water. The waves and ripples in the river seemed to be playing with the beams of the sun.

Perhaps subconsciously not desiring to be left behind, we all joined him in his frenzied movements arising out of sheer joy and freedom from anxiety and worldly concern that the moments offered us. The boatman seemed to be a bit worried and advised us to keep our heavy thumping of feet under control as the boat might lose its balance.

However, as it was not the season and the weather god was also favorable to us, nothing untoward happened. Having enjoyed ourselves and after finishing all the fruits, chocolates and other eatables that we had brought with us, we asked the boatman to start the journey backward. Suddenly an idea struck in my mind and soon we decided to go on a journey by boat. On the fixed day we took our bags and some things to eat and started for the river bank on foot. There were two boat men who instructed us to set properly on both the sides of the boat. The river water was shining in the rays of the sun and was presenting a beautiful scene. The return journey was little bit difficult because the boat was going against the current.

As the currents of the river were not in favour, the speed of the boat was not fast as it was in the beginning of the journey so it took much time and soon we saw that the sun was about to set. The weather was quite clear when we started and we were very happy that our return journey was also safe. But soon we were horrified to hear the cry, storm we were in the middle of the river. Ten years have passed since then but the memory of that boat journey is still fresh in mind. All of us my father, mother, sister, younger brother and myself, got into the boat.
