On one side there are those that believe that it is kinder to end the fetus’ life before it begins, insisting that an unwanted child can never have the kind of happy life, with all its needs provided for, that a planned for child would enjoy. They feel that it would be another unnecessary burden on society to care for this child. They believe that it is a woman’s right to choose what to do with the clump of cells that inhabit her body. On the other side are the people that believe that abortion is wrong under any circumstances, and that it is tantamount to homicide. They point to the many families that are unable to have children of their own, and they opine that the only logical option is to take the unwanted babies and give them to the wanting parents, through the process of adoption.

Abortion is an incendiary issue, as many people see it as the taking of an innocent life. However, there are others who feel that it is a perfectly considerable option for a pregnant woman. This is especially true in the case of teenage mothers, or one that is addicted to drugs or alcohol, or the victim of rape or incest, or in cases where the birth of the baby would be a potential hazard to the health of the mother. Advocates feel that it is sometimes simply the best option available, and since the embryo is not yet fully developed into a baby, they feel it is completely conscionable. For one thing, they will not have to go through the painful process of childbirth.

Some women would find it very traumatizing to give birth to a baby only to have to hand it to someone else. Many times the pregnant woman, especially in the case of rape or incest, just wants to be done with the pregnancy as soon as possible, without dealing with the agony of delivering the child and then finding a family to adopt it. There also looms the possibility that the child will be born with some sort of deficiency that will make it much harder to adopt, and the child may end up institutionalized for the remainder of his or her life. It is only logical, they say, to spare a child’s life in order to give a child to those who want one desperately but are unable to conceive. They point to the many happy adoptive kids that express gratitude to their birth mothers for choosing to give them away to a good family rather than terminate their pregnancy. Adoption would also spare the mother any potential guilt she may feel about getting rid of a fetus later in life. However, adoption is not foolproof as sometimes the adoptive families are not vetted properly and the child may end up abused or alienated.

At the end of the day it is always the mother’s choice whether to adopt or abort, and both will continue to be chosen. 2012 2016 123writings.com disclaimer: our services are designed to help students master the art of high school, college and graduate academic writing.
