Jonathan Friesen - Writing Coach

The two movies reviewed under this category are the platoon and saving private ryan. Based on a 1977 book of the same title, midnight express is a thriller film depicting the story of an american college student incarcerated in turkey. The movie was directed by and produced by alan parker and david putnam respectively. Bourneis an amnesiac cia agent and he wake up without knowledge of his identity or why he is at sea.

Towards the end of the film, bourne recollects his memory to discover that as an agent in operation treadstone, and he was assigned to assassinate wombosi. He fails to execute this assignment as wombosi’s children presence at the scene destruct him. In the midnight express, hayes had served his sentence in the penitentiary, and only 53 days had remained till the end of his sentence when the court annulled its earlier decision. The court’s decision leaves him devastated, but on his girlfriend’s advice he finally managed to escape. The bourne identity reaches a fever pitch when the professor is sent to eliminate bourne in an attempt to clean up the cia’s evidence trail. The midnight express, on one hand, achieves its objective of depicting the real life prison environment.

A noticeable shortcoming of midnight express is the negative portrayal of the turks. On the other hand, the bourne identity thrills viewers from the beginning to the end. The thrill is complemented by the stunts enabling the movie to achieve its objective. Platoon is a 1986 war film depicting the story of chris taylor, a college dropout who volunteered for the vietnam war.

Platoon depicts of taylor’s difficulty in balancing his beliefs with the horrors accompanying the war. Saving private ryan starts when ryan, now an elderly man reflects on his world war ii encounter. After three of his brothers are killed in war, general marshall orders the withdrawal of private ryan. This is after he is informed that ryan’s mother will receive three letters of her three sons’ death on the same day. Platoon based on the vietnam war achieves the objective of a war movie in its two hour duration.

Taylor’s colleague engaged in an illegal execution, and their captain threatens them with a court martial. Barnes whose is guilty of the offence is apprehensive to the fact that elias would give a testimony to that. In a later mission, barnes shot elias and reported to colleagues of elias demise as a result of enemy fire. At a later combat taylor kills a wounded barnes and finally as the movie nears completion taylor is withdrawn from the battlefield. In a comparison to the platoon, saving private ryan achieves the objectives of a war movie not only from combat intensity but also, its reliance on a historical background. In the end, ryan survives after an intense battle which claims the five of the six lives sent to extract him from the war. caution!  all free movie review essay samples and examples are 100% plagiarized. at essaylib.com writing service you can order a custom movie review essay on any topics.

It is based on frame’s autobiographical novels: to the island, an angel at my table and envoy from the mirror city. The film is accordingly divided into three sections: the first section deals with janet’s childhood in poor new zeeland district during the depression time the second section tells us about her first attempts to write, her awful experience in asylum, where she spends eight years because she is misdiagnosed as a schizophrenic. At this time se is awarded for her book of short stories lagoon and this circumstance helps her to leave this mental institution. Becoming a famous writer she visits england, spain and other countries and all in all comes back to new zeeland.

At first director jane campion and producer bridget ilkin planned an angel at my table as an australian tv mini series, but then it appeared on a square television screen despite all campion’s worries about its inappropriateness for this function. The distinctive feature of an angel at my table is vivid images and the talent use of visual language. The scenes of the film invoke our emotions, make us feel what frame feels, and make us come through the difficult situations together with her. One of the greatest visual scenes is janet’s return to new zeeland after her father’s death. She looks around her, starts cleaning the house and suddenly sees her beloved father’s old boots. Janet slips her feet in the boots trying to imitate movements and gestures of her father.

Another bright scene is the appearance of a sword in the hand of the literature teacher at high school. The teacher reads an abstract from a work of fiction in such a dramatic voice that it touches students’ souls and janet even images a sword in her hand when the hand reaches up and clasps excalibur by its jewel encrusted hilt jones, 1990. The image of a sword tells us much about janet as a sensitive and impressionable person with bright imagination. Campion’s main aim was not just to introduce the audience facts from frame’s biography, although it was also very important for the director. She is known for her strong psychological female characters she investigates different sides of female nature and shows this in her films. Jane campion is a rarity, not simply because she is a world class female director, but because she has devoted her career to exploring female subjectivity: all of her feature films and most of her early short films are constructed around female experience, female heroes, and female points of view ashby, 2002, 98. An angel at my table is a bright example of jane’s talent to create tragic female characters.

Each group, no matter how diverse their beliefs or how dissimilar their behaviors, will contain men of honest and peaceful natures as well as men of divisive and violent natures. In the film dances with wolves, we are exposed to two distinct categories of people inhabiting post civil war america, the white man and the native american. We, most likely, begin the movie with defined ideas as to which group contains honest, peaceful men and which group contains violent and savage men. We are, however, exposed to behaviors which are in opposition to the accepted stereotypes associated with these groups. As we move through the film we are taken from the comfortable starting point of our existing stereotypes into new territory, both literally and philosophically. The film accomplishes this by allowing us to journey with john dunbar, a man who is as open minded and free of preconceived notions as the originally empty journal on which his new ideas and understandings are written. Through his experiences we are exposed to the sharp contrast between the violent and crude, as well as the peaceful and thoughtful natures of men.
