When becoming the age of sixteen a new challenge is brought into a person's life, the task of driving a car. Driving a car is a task that should only be taken on by teenagers over the age of eighteen, because they are more responsible and understand the risk involved. Sixteen year olds brains are underdeveloped and most of the driving they do is unnecessary.

Its worked for so long, why change it now? in today's society the idea of sixteen and seventeen year olds operating cars has become a way of life. But if one stops to think about it, there is no need for these drivers to be on the road. Most of these drivers still live at home and have no job because they're still in school.

I know there's so many times when i want to drive somewhere because my parents aren't home or i just want to be by myself outside of the house. I'm sure a lot of teenagers that are younger than sixteen can't wait to be able to get on the road. Another problem with these drivers is they are very irresponsible and put other drivers in danger on the road. Recent statistics show that most drivers who are caught speeding or involved in automobile accidents are under the age of eighteen. This is because the drivers have no responsibility and cannot handle the task of driving a car.

In georgia congress members have noticed this problem and are working on an amendment that would raise the driving age to eighteen. By raising the driving age to eighteen it would give these teens more time to mature before getting behind the wheel many people ask this question everyday all around the united states should the driving age be raised to 18? if you ask me the driving age should not be raised to 18 there are too many teenagers that depend on a driver’s license. If the age is changed to 18, it will not stop the accident rate of young drivers, and finally teens would most likely drive anyways. Some teenagers attend school where they cannot take a bus and need to get their own rides. Also, teenagers that work need to have their own car and license so they can arrive to work on time without having to worry about taking a taxi, bus, or even depending on someone else and their schedule. Teenagers are maturing and learning to do things on their own and for themselves by having the privilege to drive. If a teen has a doctor’s appointment, they can drive themselves there without the parent or guardian having to change their work schedule or other plans they may have.

The accident rate of teen drivers, or new drivers, is very high and many people seem to believe that it is because teenagers are simply not mature enough and want to just have fun. Although this is true for some teens, there are immature people of all ages why punish 16 and 17 year olds? the reason why there are so many accidents involving teen drivers is because teens are new drivers. If the age is changed to 18 or even 21 there will still be many accidents with those drivers, because they are just learning and getting the hang of driving around. There will be more teenagers getting in trouble and more work for police officers to do if the driving age is raised.

The driving age should not be raised to 18 years old because, like i said before, many teens depend on their privilege to drive, accident rate most likely will stay the same, and teens will just do it anyways. Coventry, ri all on one after school drive, the radio is blasting, phones are endlessly ringing and vibrating, and four teenagers are eagerly and distractingly chatting about whatever life or death situation occurred in between sixth and seventh period that day. This normally would not be a problem, for an experienced driver capable of blocking out distractions with the necessary focus skills needed that only time and practice can perfect. Yet, with an inattentive 16 year old who recently received their license behind the wheel, the lives of all four teenagers become more at risk with every inch traveled down the pavement by that car. Statistics have shown one of every five 16 year olds will be in a severe motor vehicle crash within two years of getting their license and that number is only rising yet only for drivers 17 years old and younger. The radical but now new idea of raising the legal driving age is most assuredly a controversial issue, and is gaining momentum, but if the lives of over 50 teens lost in the year 2009 to motor vehicle crashes can’t convince america of the desperation in this cause, what will? sixteen year olds are mentally immature and incapable of handling a motor vehicle. Now, by opening with such a bold statement it is only logical that proven facts, studies, and evidence are necessary to prove such a point.
