In our innovative and technical society, pop culture has flooded entertainment. This exhausted genre of television has taken a new approach to attempt to show outrageous and extreme scenarios to keep a grasp on its’ viewers. Rather than providing true entertainment, there reality tv shows often display a talentless, annoying cast. As well as fill their shows with product placement allowing the cast members to get wealthy off of endorsement products and become living advertisement.

These are the ones that don?t understand the subculture and fail to realize what the allure to these types of shows is. And still, there are those who will watch reality programming but they don?t crave it. They don?t wish they were the ones on television, and they certainly have exciting enough lives. People watch tv to experience things that they cannot or haven’t experienced in their lives, tv creates a link for them to what they would like to experience. Shows like law and order capture our imagination and we like to think that that is the way police officers are and shows like this convince us that crime rates are higher then they are, because we see it all the time on tv. As described in the cultivation analysis theory, people watch tv like a religion and this affects their lives, most of what we know, or think we know, we have never personally experienced.
