A s a leader, how do you become a better leader? if you rsquo re like me, you probably read a lot of books, listen to podcasts, and attend a few conferences. One of his goals is to grow as a leader and one of his sabbatical projects is to interview leaders in various professions. Michael asked great, thoughtful questions. in fact, the questions were so good that i asked him for permission to post them here. The next time i am with a leader i respect, i can pop out this list and start interviewing.

    can you name a person who has had a tremendous impact on you as a leader? maybe some one who has been a mentor to you? why and how did this person impact your life? what are the most important decisions you make as a leader of your organization? as an organization gets larger there can be a tendency for the ldquo institution rdquo to dampen the ldquo inspiration. This will give you some basis of comparison as you begin to learn from the leaders around you. Tell me about a time when you failed as a leader. a number of factors can fall outside a leader's control such as the available skill pool in the organization, time constraints, the economic climate. If employees are lethargic and negatively orientated it can create a situation ripe for failure. In answering leadership interview questions that explore how you deal with difficult challenges focus on how you were able to analyze the setback and seek honest feedback to learn from failure. How you used the difficult situation to encourage constructive questioning of policies and practices. Show your ability to be resilient in the face of failure and to constantly work towards improvement.

Demonstrate your ability to settle dispute by focusing on solving the problem taking into consideration the personalities involved. Show how you evaluate the viability of the different dispute resolution mechanisms available and are able to provide support and expertise to other people.
