How to include long quotes in essays we all know that the best way to quote in essays is to keep it short and snappy, right? if possible, you should include the quote inside your sentence: smith supports this point, stating that readers generally get bored with long chunks of quoted text. However, there are going to be times when you feel you have to include a quote in full. So how should you do this? the first point of call is to check your style guide. Most universities use the harvard guide, but apa, chicago, and mla are all common too. You should have a copy of this somewhere but if not, there is sure to be a version on your university website. Most style guides will tell you that for quotes of over fifty words, or four lines in length, you should indent the quote and use double quote marks.

Only english concentrators including joint concentrators may apply to write a senior thesis in creative writing. Students submit applications in february of their junior year, including first term juniors who are out of phase.

This years application deadline is tuesday, february 16, 2016. students applying for a creative writing thesis must have completed at least one course in creative writing at harvard before they apply. It is strongly suggested that students acquaint themselves with the requirements and guidelines long before the thesis application is due. The creative writing director and faculty must approve any exceptions to the requirements. petitions for exceptions to the requirements must be made in writing to the creative writing director by monday, january 18, 2015. After students submit applications in february, the creative writing faculty considers the proposal along with the students overall performance in creative writing and other english courses.

Students not chosen to write a creative thesis may still apply to write a critical thesis. Since the creative writing thesis is part of the english honors program, acceptance to write a creative thesis is conditional upon the student continuing to maintain a 3.40 concentration gpa. If a students concentration gpa drops below 3.40 after the spring of the junior year i.e. Following notification of conditional acceptance to the program , the student may not be permitted to continue in the thesis program.
