Small town what my family was like single mom what were my educational experiences small school family members as teachers my personal. Professional and academic goals job promotion past, present and future 3 my past, present and future in the past weeks, i had an opportunity to look back and analyze the events that have shaped my i grew up in small town in south carolina called salters it was just like the small towns that we all have seen on television. It had the small shopping centers that were closed on sundays so everyone could attend church services and did not serve any alcohol. The life there was easy going, the biggest jobs in this town were in the farming industry. Most people worked all day for less than minuim wage, but it was not like today where we have people trying to keep up with the jones’s, it didn’t matter because everyone was trying to make it. My family during this time in my life was just like any other family in the area.

People in rural area were still having big families in order to work the land and have live in babysitters. My oldest brother by this time had moved out and started his own family, i remember growing up with nephews as playmates so there has never been an uncle type relationship which i think has made us a lot closer. My mom was the head of the family that made sure everything was fine she held down a couple of part. Past, present, and future growing up i did not have much encouragement to get an education beyond high school.

My words exactly were, i am not crazy enough to finish 13 years of school just to go back for another 4 or more and have to pay for it. I saw grown men working hard in the kitchen and sweating over a hot stove all day everyday. As soon as i finished, with his help i enrolled in the local community college where i finished my general education then transferred to the university of north texas to study criminal justice.

However, i was only there a year when i quit due to being undecided on what i wanted to do with a criminal justice degree. I quickly realized that i was capable of doing so much but needed a college degree to even have a chance unless i wanted to stay at the same place forever. That is when i changed jobs to one that would allow me the flexibility i needed to finish school. I have learned that i am stronger than i ever realized that once i put my mind to something i will succeed. I have also learned about the criminal justice system and have discovered that i have a passion for juvenile delinquents.

I noticed that i would get on my soap box when it came to classmates criticizing juvenile delinquents. It is my hope to one day be able to work with juveniles whether it be as a juvenile probation officer or counselor. I have a five year plan in place right not to be able to go to law school full time in 5 years. Although i grew up there and lived most of my life there, i currently reside in lumberton, north carolina. In my past life i have experienced great turmoil and distress in various areas of my life but i have overcome them. One of the greatest tragedies i had to overcome in my youth was the arguing, fighting, and constant separating between my parents. My father was an alcoholic and this led my mother to be the sole care taker of us the best that she could. They would argue and fight so much that we would just sit in our rooms and listen to the hustle and bustle of things being thrown down and knocked over by them. Even though they would fight and argue they would make up and when the weekend came it was the same thing all over again.
