Kelsa benensky, a mechanical engineering junior, won first place for an essay about her parents influence on her to go for her dreams. I learned from their example that if you follow your heart and really go for it that there is nothing stopping you, said benensky. She also said it means a lot to penn states swe organization to have done so well in the competition because their success raised money to help young women in engineering at penn state. Swe really gives women engineers a great opportunity to network, make friends and give back to the penn state community, explained benensky.

She intends on using her prize money to attend the american nuclear societys winter meeting, meet her mentor and network with other professionals in this field. I am so happy that this year swe has continued the tradition with winning the essay contest. Schlumberger is a wonderful company who has been always generous to penn state swe, and it is nice to see how important it is for them to get women interested in engineering.  the paterno fellows program  is holding the collegiate laws of life essay contest to encourage penn state undergraduate students to explore ethical values and intercultural issues, and their talent for expressing their views in writing. Essay contest winners will receive $300 for first place, $150 for second place and $50 for third place. All winners will be acknowledged at the annual paterno fellows recognition ceremony on jan. Winning essays will be published on the liberal arts voices blog. the contest is open to all full time baccalaureate students who are enrolled at any penn state campus for at least one semester of the 2013 14 academic year.

For the most part, greek life students are viewed as cliquey people who throw parties constantly. The greek housing that is available are the fraternity houses and other apartments.

campus housing: i only lived on campus for one year, and it was in east halls, so the walks to campus definitely sucked. However, the people on my floor were very close to each other and always friendly and created a pleasant atmosphere. I currently live in pollock and the room layout is strange, as there are bumpers that inhibit the use of bed risers for average storage. The ras all seem to be friendly and the buildings themselves are at a good location on campus.
