I gained significant insights into the realities of daily life in a busy working primary school and appreciated how the class teacher must balance a truly diverse workload. The experience has, however, only served to fuel my enthusiasm and seal my conviction to apply for your course. I found it particularly rewarding to help pupils find interest in their lessons and complete tasks as independently as possible: placed with a year one class, i took it upon myself to motivate a child who initially refused to start an art project due to fear of failure.

Receiving positive feedback from both child and teacher for my efforts, i realised the importance of support and praise in enabling achievement. Similarly, observing the class teacher delivering the curriculum, i saw firsthand a range of dynamic techniques that allowed each child to engage and follow at their own pace. This made me keener than ever to begin the pgce and learn about strategies that i may implement in my own lessons to keep pupils interested, stimulated and willing to participate all elements that i believe are crucial to deep learning.

Encouraged to reflect on skills that i already possess, i feel that my knowledge of makaton signing, pecs, my art background and experience of creating visual aids will prove invaluable in assisting children with communicating and expressing themselves successfully. My role as a residential support worker, where i was trained in such methods, saw me designing care plans and key working with disabled children, developing my organisation and time management abilities to the highest levels. Good record keeping, administrative and it skills were essential as i had to keep colleagues, parents and wider professionalsaware of all progressions and problems. Working with young people with disabilities was challenging and even physically difficult however, taking advantage of regular training and integrating myself as part of a supportive, structured and energetic team equipped me with considerable expertise and the confidence to ensure that both i and the young people in my care were included and fulfilled.

My psychology and sociology degree incorporated modules in childhood and ageing, self and society and cognitive psychology: therefore, my overall theoretical knowledge of human development is excellent. I am excited at the prospect of working with primaryaged children, helping them to acquire and develop life skills and providing them with an example of inspiring leadership at a young age. Teaching is my dream and i eagerly anticipate the challenges of the pgce course and of my future career. With my sociable and active personality, merging with a new cohort and exploring the various strengths of other graduates is very appealing. I intend to bring my own work history and individual skills to bear and am considering long term plans to progress into the sen sector. Wherever my path as an educator may lead, i am wholehearted in my determination to contribute however i can to the course and participate fully in the learning experience that studying teaching will present.
