Help with prescriptions and medicine the nursing home: a haven for the elderly today's nursing homes are excellent environments for our elderly. These establishments provide health care, entertainment, security, and above all, a home for over 1,0,0 american citizens over age 70. There is no better place for an individual who is slowly losing his or her faculties. During one's golden years, one should not have to worry about daily chores like washing the dishes or mowing the lawn.

Also, busses take the senior citizens to places of common interest, such as the grocery store and local shopping malls. This alleviates the everyday stress of driving for those residents who are losing some of their basic faculties, and creates a safer driving environment for everyone. In addition, these older citizens are protected from those con artists who prey deliberately on the elderly. Just last year, i went with my high school's beta club to a nearby nursing home where we held a valentine's day party with cake and ice cream for all of the residents.

Aside from outside visitors, residents have the opportunity to make new friends within the home itself. Since everyone is generally the same age, most have a great deal in common and get along well with their 'neighbors.' of course, the primary purpose of today's nursing homes is health care. Family members can rest assured that their older loved ones are taken care of, day and night.

This removes a great stress from the family of an elderly person who can no longer care for him or herself. It is obviously the best choice for those senior citizens who desire a low stress, yet highly entertaining atmosphere. Honestly, after fifty plus years working at a full time job, do you really think you'll want to get out the mower? there is a story told about a couple who brought along their child and their aged, sickly, bed ridden father into the forest with the intention of dumping their father there. The child replied that he wanted to use the basket to dump them in the forest when they were old.

Nowadays, many children are dumping their aged parents by sending them to the old folks’ home due to different kinds of reasons as well as excuses. This is due to the fact that many aged parents would like to stay close with their children. Many aged parents have been working hard and earning money throughout their life. They might not have a close relationship with their children because they have spent most of their time on earning money.

So, a good kinship with their children is important to them especially after retirement. But, those children who do not have a good relationship with their parents may send them to the old folks’ home. This is because they think that their parents did not care for them enough while they were young. According to landers 2009 , risks of getting sentimental, attitude and growth problems for children are increasing due to the lack of time to communicate with their parents.

However, children should not do this to them because they have sacrificed their whole life for working all the time just to give their children a good living environment and education. An old age home is usually the place, a home for those old people who have no one to look after them or those who have been thrown out of their homes by their children. The place is of course like home where the inmates get all the facilities for a routine living, like food, clothing, and shelter. All these necessities are well looked after but, the much needed love, and care of loved ones is of course sadly missing for, how can outsiders provide solace? in these homes, it is very interesting and even touching to talk to people whether they are men or women. At least in india till now, the old people staying away from the home, from their children, or left to themselves is not considered to be a very happy situation. This concept of separating the elders from the youngsters has been imported into india from the west. However, for the west it may not be so heart rending for, there, it is their original life style that two generations never stay under one roof.

How to Write a Flashback In a Narrative Essay

But, in india where, for centuries, not only two but also even three generations have lived together, this new concept of nuclear families with the elders ousted, is just too touching to bear. If, in any home we talk to the inmates, their story would be much the same turmoil in the family, disgust against the old and, finally the removal of the elders from the family scene. It is the family atmosphere, and being among their flesh and blood that, most of the old people miss at the old age home. They do get their daily needs fulfilled but, from where will the love of the dear ones come? the stories of almost all the old people are the same and very dismal. It is the breakup of the system of the joint family and the introduction of a nuclear family that has brought this unhappy situation enter our society, and the old age homes have had to come up to cater to the needs of the elderly. Besides this, since the women have started working out of homes, there is now, no one to look after the routine needs of the elders at home.

Also with the women working out come their attitudes towards the elders, for, today, the working women do not take the elders as their duty but as useless appendages in the family. This attitude of the women has also largely contributed to the removal of elders from families. With this backdrop, the necessity for old age homes was felt, and is being increasingly felt with the passage of time. The entire spectrum of circumstances has led to this unhappy need for old age homes. No matter how well they are looked after in these homes, a single visit to an old age home brings depression to the onlooker as, no one yes, no one seems to be happy there. It is very clear to all who visit an old age home that, all the inmates are there, not for the love of being away from home and independent but, because there is no better alternative left for them, once they are neglected and unwanted in their homes by their own children. The only solace is that, they are getting their daily requirements of shelter and food if not the bonds of love from the family.

Physical activities and healthy living is essential to all ages, including the elderly. Bodies are made for activity and without regular exercise they will not function at an efficient level. It is not age but lack of exercise that makes people stiff and numb, even young people can stiffen up without adequate exercise.

Physical activity helps the body to maintain its youthfulness, and helps movement, making it easier to be self sufficient. Activity aids in a better life all together with health, stronger muscles, stronger positive attitude and a powerful resistance to sickness. All these positive outcomes from exercise are also experienced by the elderly, ages fifty and up. Too often, upon retirement, a person coming straight out of the workforce who is active and alert will deteriorate physically and mentally. Their muscle strength diminishes with age, they are not sufficiently being used so they decrease in power.
