Prompt: describe a circumstance, obstacle, or conflict in your life, and the skills and resources you used to resolve it. Some are small causing short lived distress while others seem to shake us to our very core. I have had my share of problems both large and small and i have found that the most difficult obstacle i have overcome to be my father. My father wasn't truly present in my life until he decided to move to texas when i was eight, resulting in much more frequent visitation. The abrupt lifestyle change left me worried, not only because of the new presence in my life but because my father had decided to take residence in a fairly large back room of a flower shop to save money for a house. Half of the room was occupied by his carpentry supplies, so the little space left available was tightly situated to accommodate a couch, two beds, a television, and a table with chairs.

There was an aura of coldness about it, accentuated by the chill of the concrete floor. I was not accustomed to a lifestyle outside of my home with my mother, much less a lifestyle that lacked so many of the amenities that i felt were necessities. I was not allowed to practice my faith and attend a catholic service while i was with him.

All of these abrupt lifestyle changes i encountered upon my father's arrival scared me. I felt like i had to be two different people because of the huge difference between these two lifestyles. Rather than allowing this new circumstance to spiral my life out of control, i decided that i was not going to let it get in the way of my goals for the future. The decision i made nine years ago remains today and my outlook has changed on the whole situation tremendously. Thus far the promises of house have not been met and they may never be, and i have accepted that.

I have accepted all of the hardships that i have experienced with my father and i have no animosity towards him. I now know the steps he has taken to get to this point in his life so i am better able to avoid going down that same path. I am now seventeen and i am sharing my final year with my father before i go to college, and i find myself reflecting on the many years we have spent together.

Through it all i think i have become a better person, through the good and the bad. I have now changed my mission from making sure that this experience doesn't get in the way of my goals to using this experience and the lessons i have learned to help me in reaching my goals for the future. I couldn 039 t think of anything good initially and just decided to jump into the body.

Sorry for any spelling errors and i would really appreciate and input you may have. Throughout one’s life obstacles tend to get in the way in the form of disguises that aren’t always pretty. Approximately three years ago when i was a freshmen in high school, in my english class we always had frequent assignments of writing an essay and handing it in or writing a poem and presenting it to the class. I never loved the idea of writing an essay but if it kept me in my seat where i was safe from standing up in front of the class, then i will obligingly embrace it.

Only a couple would actually do the poem and obviously they weren’t the ones that were afraid of talking in front of people. Couple of times i actually pondered upon the idea of getting up just once so i could see what it was like but i pushed that thought away from mind thinking about all the possible things that could go wrong, for example, i could have a panic attack or i could stutter upon my words making a complete fool of myself. When my brave peers would go up i would take it as my job to study to see exactly where they get the courage to do this and i always noticed they always had it, it just didn’t appear out of nowhere, they grew up with it. When i would do presentations like way back in elementary school, then it was nothing for me because i didn’t know there were such things as messing up but as soon as i hit like the eight grade i would see kids laughing at other kids who messed up and that’s where my fear of going up in front of the class came from. One magical day i dared the impossible, this time i didn’t write an essay, i wrote a poem. I gathered up my courage, took a final look around and stood up to enter the battlefield.

In my head i had it all planned, i would look at my paper the whole time, be prone to those comments that will be coming. Fortunately that’s is exactly what happened, when i was half way through the poem some kid i wasn’t very fond of started laughing and i looked up and i discovered he wasn’t laughing at me but was chatting with one of his friends. From that day on i have definitely learned a lot, for example, its human nature to judge and you can’t stop somebody else’s thoughts, you just have to learn to adapt. That day was a risk for me because i could have done several things wrong and it would make a scar on past that i would always remember the day as a reminder to never present things and my fear would never leave. I loved the time i spent over there because syria is very nice place, and the people who live there are very nice and lovely. It was very hard for me to study with american students, and hard for me to find a job. _ for an essay ostensibly about obstacles faced in your life, this essay as a whole, but especially the first half, is very vague. Introductions normally do not merely introduce the topic of the essay as yours does , they also provide a preliminary overview of either how that topic will be addressed or what will be said about it. So instead of simply saying i faced several obstacles, you should specify the obstacles faced living in a war zone, adapting to life in america and perhaps give an indication of the consequences of having had to face such obstacles now i'm stronger and wiser , or now i'm a miserable alcoholic . Some teachers place an inordinate emphasis on introductory paragraphs and theses i know one who claimed to base the entire grade on the introduction , so it's worth putting a lot of effort in practicing writing such statements. When you get to the part that is relevant to the topic of the essay, you say i got a lot of obstacles in this time. Note that got is the wrong word here you were correct in the first paragraph when you used the verb to face.

The least interesting thing about the obstacles you faced during a war is probably the number of them, but that's the only information you give us you say you faced a lot . Here, at least, you do provide a few details about things which were different to you, and about specific difficulties you faced studying with american students and finding a job. Why was it difficult studying with those students or finding a job? was that difficulty caused by the language barrier, or by cultural differences, or by animosity towards you? the more details and explanation you can offer about such things, the more compelling your essay will be. You might also consider explaining how you coped with the difficulties you faced and what you learned from your experiences generally. Doing so should help you to find a way to integrate your final paragraph more fully into the story you tell in your essay. As it stands now, your final paragraph uses a very vague statement to connect your statements about the future with your experiences in the past: with time, everything became easy for me. Why not explain what you did to make everything ultimately easy? as you continue to study english grammar and read extensively in english i.e.

An hour or more every day , you will be able to write more complex, error free sentences.
