Before pearl harbor, the country was divided and not all americans wanted to be a part of world war ii. Pearl harbor made americans passionate about the war and provoked a joint effort by all, at home and overseas. Civilian employees helped to load and clean weapons, wounded men fought on, doctors from miles away rushed to the scene and when blood donations were needed donors stood in line for almost seven hours to do their part. Only a few hours after the japanese attack on pearl harbor, japan formally declared war against the united states.

The outcome of world war ii may have been entirely different if the united states had not joined the allied powers. All automobile factories in the united states stopped production of cars and began manufacturing only vehicles and planes for the war. Women went to work in factories to make war supplies and some even joined the armed forces. Without the united states providing so many troops and supplies, the allied powers may not have won.

We can look back on this day and be proud that we live in a country where people forget themselves and do whatever it takes to help each other in a time of need and unite toward a common goal. Without our combined efforts, the outcome of world war ii could have been entirely different, and we would be living in a different world. 7, 1941, is a day of historical importance for america since it was a day of unexpected chaos that led the awakening of the united states into world war ii. Since we did not take japan's threat seriously enough, it caused a massive destruction of our pacific fleet. Although we tried hard to make peace treaties with japan, our efforts failed because we did not take action soon enough. Therefore, that unstoppable war has made our country today more aware of the dangers of nuclear weapons, and also more conscious of when we should act. Two thousand and four hundred admirable men died and some were trapped alive on the battleship arizona when it became submerged in a spine tingling horror. During this ghastly attack, two other ships were sunk, four battleships were damaged and 188 aircraft were ruined.

Not only america's military suffered, but the hardship on their families and friends could never be even partially replaced. However, today their courage and example still lives on through history, making their deaths heroic, becoming unforgettable. The start of america's part within world war ii showed just how strong this wealthy, democratic country is from our successful retaliation with the atomic bomb on hiroshima and nagasaki, giving us victory, hope and justice. Our citizens, government officials and military came together in a time of need as we prevailed, setting a great example for the future. The significance of pearl harbor was never about vengeance on japan, but is about remembrance and commemoration for those who fought fearlessly to defend our country, recollection of how important it is to be aware of serious issues concerning war, and how a diverse country can become so tightly joined through hard times. Pearl harbor affected us greatly in many ways, but catapulted america to become what it is today, a fiercely strong, independent country of proud americans.
